Meet the Coaches Behind Marrickville Martial Arts Club

A martial arts gym is only as good as the people teaching in it. Here is a short introduction to the coaches who lead the programs at Marrickville Martial Arts Club — what each one teaches, and the background they bring.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Josh Allsop — BJJ Head Coach

Josh is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt from AOJ, and leads the club’s BJJ program for adults and kids. Read Josh’s profile.

Jun Kim — BJJ Instructor

Jun trains under Josh Allsop and teaches in the club’s BJJ program. Read Jun’s profile.

Wrestling

Tsuchika Shimoyamada — Wrestling Head Coach

Tsuchika is ranked number three in the world. His sessions are technical and structured — beginners drill the same fundamentals as experienced wrestlers, at their own pace. Read Tsuchika’s profile.

Mixed Martial Arts

Antonio Mammarella — Head MMA Instructor

Antonio is a current professional MMA fighter with more than fourteen years in mixed martial arts. His classes combine striking, clinch and ground work so members become comfortable in every range, and he also takes Muay Thai sessions. Read Antonio’s profile.

Nikolija Milosevic — Women’s MMA Coach

Nikolija is currently fighting in the UFC. Her women-only class is built so that someone with no background can follow along from the first minute. Read Nikolija’s profile.

Muay Thai

Bastian Ayala — Muay Thai Instructor

Bastian has trained Muay Thai for more than a decade, including multiple training trips to Thailand. He teaches a technical, traditional style and takes both morning and evening sessions. Read Bastian’s profile.

Johana Reyes Lagos — Women’s Muay Thai Instructor

Johana has more than eight years in Muay Thai and leads the women-only Muay Thai class. Her sessions are supportive — the aim is that a first-timer leaves having actually learned something. Read Johana’s profile.

How classes are coached

Every session on the timetable is run by a coach, and every program is taught from the fundamentals. Sparring isn’t part of a first class; when it does happen later, it is controlled, supervised and matched to your level.

Meet all the coaches, or check the live timetable to find a class with the coach you’d like to train with.
